Welcome to alexlindsay.com.au. The aim of this website is to assist tree-growers in tropical Australia to get the best value for their investment. The development of plantation forestry in northern Australia has been quite sporadic. We are currently in a low point, due to the lack of government industry development and extension staff, the general state of the economy, and the recent memory of major cyclones Larry, Ului and Yasi.
The risk of cyclones is real, and important to consider, as the impact can be catastrophic. However the fundamentals for tree-growing are still very good, given the warm temperatures, high rainfall (or access to irrigation in the dry tropics), suitable soils, and wide array of high-value timber species which have been grown successfully in the past.
I can’t do much about the general state of the economy, but I can attempt to fill the void from lack of government industry development and extension staff. On this website you will find links to useful information, and an outline of the range of advisory services I can offer. You will also find a marketplace, where people looking to buy wood can connect with tree-growers and individuals with wood for sale.
